Water blasting is the best method of preparing swimming pools for a new surface finish. It is environmentally friendly and there is minimal clean up.
Sandblasting converts previous pool coatings into a fine dust that contaminates the air. Not only does this fine dust present a health hazard, but it also coats cars, collects in the sliding tracks of windows and doors, coats ornamental flowers and landscaping; even seeping through the open windows of neighboring homes.
Sandblasting literally affects everything around your pool. The area affected depends on the wind speed of the particular day when sand blasting occurs. If sandblasting is used, there will be an inevitable mess that must be laboriously cleaned up.
(1) With water blasting, there is no airborne dust. All particles or materials being removed are saturated and gravity brings them to the ground quickly.
(2 ) There is no sand to be cleaned up and disposed of.
(3) For residences with screened enclosures, we utilize a tarping system to contain any debris. It is quickly erected and disassembled.
(4) Probably the greatest advantage to using water blasting with pools is the vast difference in hydraulic pressures between sandblasting and water blasting. Waterblasting.com uses 40,000 psi waterjets when water blasting pool surfaces. Sandblasters use approximately 150 psi of air pressure. Water blasting provides 39,850 psi more than sandblasting for better cleaning and coating removal.
Water blasting at 40,000 psi will remove the pool coating while at the same time removing any inferior marcite or concrete that lies beneath it. Water blasting prevents you from wasting time recoating a partially deteriorated surface which will not maintain a strong bond.
Because of the constant pressure, waterjets seek out and destroy all inferior surfaces in your pool and insure that whatever new surface you choose to apply, it will remain there for a very long time.
